What is the difference between the production of independent molds and integrated molds for plastic parts?

The editor is following up a project recently. The project product is three plastic accessories of customer A. After the three accessories are finished, they can be assembled into a complete product with a silicone ring. When customer A considered the production cost factor, he emphasized that the mold should be opened together, that is, there are three mold cores on one mold blank, and the three parts can be produced together at the same time during production.

However, in the follow-up cooperation and communication, customer A wanted to overthrow the three-in-one idea after considering various factors. So what is the difference between the production of independent molds and integrated molds for plastic parts? Why does customer A want to overthrow the three-in-one approach?

As I just said, the advantage of the three-in-one mold is that it reduces the cost of mold development. The plastic mold is simply divided into two parts, the mold core and the mold blank. The mold cost composition includes labor cost, equipment depreciation, labor cost and material cost, among which materials account for 50%-70% of the entire mold cost. The three-in-one mold is three sets of mold cores plus one set of mold blanks. During production, three different products can be obtained at one time with the same equipment and the same time. In this way, not only the mold cost is reduced, but also the cost of the product parts list is also reduced.

If the three accessories are separately opened a complete set of molds, it is three sets of mold cores plus mold blanks. The simple understanding is that the material cost is more than the mold blank cost. But in fact not only that, but also more labor and working hours. At the same time, when producing plastic parts, only one part can be produced at a time at the same time. If you want to produce three parts at the same time, you need to add two additional injection molding machines to process together, and the production cost will increase accordingly.

However, in terms of product quality adjustment and color matching, independent molds for plastic parts have more advantages than three-in-one molds. If the three-in-one mold wants to achieve different colors and quality effects of each part, it needs to be produced by sealing. This will cause the machine to be overkill, and there is no independent mold to control it.

The independent mold of each accessory can produce different quantities of accessories according to the number of accessories required by the project to supply production needs. But the three-in-one mold will be the first with the mold itself, and all accessories can only be produced in the same quantity each time. Even if some accessories do not need so many, we have to meet the needs of the largest number of accessories first, which will cause material waste.

Compared with the three-in-one mold, the independent mold can better control the quality of the product during production. When the three-in-one mold produces products, sometimes there will be contradictions in the supply of materials and time between parts and parts, which requires constant production of each part to find the balance point of production.
